Feb 7, 1991 DIGITAL EQUIPMENT CORPORATION (United States Only) THE EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVE (TEI) PROGRAM QUALIFICATION AND U.S. TEI EDUCATION DESKTOP PRICE LIST POLICIES PROGRAM OVERVIEW Introduced in December, 1988, The Education Initiative (TEI) represents Digital's commitment to the education market. The program has and will continue to evolve to meet changing needs. The Education Initiative is a set of partnership programs that are designed to help education institutions achieve substantial cost savings by sharing computing management, support and service responsibilties with Digital. Currently there are five programs within the Education Initiative which match Digital's product and service strengths with the unique characteristics of the education market to create exceptional cost control solutions. For further information regarding Digital's TEI programs please contact your local Digital Sales Representative. PROGRAM QUALIFICATION In order to qualify for Digital Equipment Corporation's "The Educational Initiative" (TEI) programs, when purchasing equipment and services, accepting a grant of licensed software or purchasing from the TEI Desktop Price List, the following conditions need to be met: The education institution shall qualify for the Education Initiative Program if the institution is nonprofit and is lawfully operating either as an accredited college or university; a vocational, technical or trade school; a state or local school system, or an independent primary or secondary school exclusively for nonprofit educational purposes. The institution includes only those majority owned non-profit subsidiaries that provide education and/or research. Majority owned is defined as greater than 50% ownership by the educational institution. With regard to health care entities, only teaching hospitals which are majority owned by a qualified educational institution qualify under TEI. Any/all other affiliated hospitals and/or other healthcare entities do not qualify for TEI pricing. It is important to note that profit oriented entities (even those organized as not for profit), eg. HMOs, physician group practices, etc. are not eligible for TEI. Only qualified education institutions in the United States may participate in the U.S. implementation of The Education Initiative Program. Other Digital Equipment education market programs are available in certain countries outside the United States. PROGRAM RULES Equipment purchased under the Program must remain with the qualified educational institution or its majority owned subsidiary for its own use for a period of not less than eighteen months. Equipment may not be acquired under The Education Initiative by an educational institution or its majority owned subsidiary and "passed through", resold or distributed to a third party prior to the end of the eighteen month period. The qualified educational institution or its qualified majority owned subsidiary may lease for its own use. Licensed software or services provided under The Education Initiative Program may only be used on equipment acquired by the qualified educational institution. Prices in the Education Desktop Computing Price List are net prices. No other discounts or program incentives apply. The Education Initiative o Campuswide Software License Grant Program - CSLG Partnership program that annually grants the license and rights to new versions to almost 300 software products. The institution agrees to manage, track, distribute and report on the program. o CSLG Partner Program Offers campuswide or site licenses for products Digital Developed software products with royalties or third party products. o Education Software Library - ESL A centralized software maintenance partnership program providing initial media and documentation, updates and phone support for 40+ products. The institution provides the first level of support to users and agrees to manage, track, distribute and report on the program. o Campus Service Agreement - CSA A hardware self-maintenance partnership program where the institution provides the technical resources and the first level of support. o TEI Grant Program TEI DESKTOP PRICE LIST offers special education pricing on desktop products and peripherals. (Cannot be combined with other TEI grants.) 13% grant on the systems and system upgrades preconfigured with an Ultrix or VMS operating system license. 9% grant on those Personal Computers and related PC options which are offered through DESKTOP DIRECT as discountable. 30% grant through DECdirect on Digital Press Books and discountable add-ons, options and peripherals (media, documentation, disks, CDROM, etc.), discountable QA and QB Software Model numbers, Spares and Supplies including cables, environmental products and Software Documentation.
